Consider this Your Nudge
Years ago, I received a call from a colleague, and we chatted for a few minutes when she said something to the effect that she assumed I was going to nominate our association's executive director for the Association Hall of Fame. What?! My heart skipped a beat. The truth is that I was swamped planning our summer conference and overseeing the development of our new website, and the thought had never occurred to me. But - the seed was planted.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that not only should I nominate him but that I wanted to nominate him. He taught me tons about association management and leadership. He was a tough boss, a good soul, and had a great sense of humor. This was a leader who would go to the mat for his members and his employees! His leadership was worthy of recognition.
Somehow, with the help of colleagues and board members, we were able to submit the nomination. Later, when I heard that he was being inducted into the Hall of Fame, I was so grateful that someone planted the seed that prompted the nomination. And so glad that I made the time to do something for this person who had done so much for others.
Who's work do you appreciate and admire? Who's influenced your career?
The Diamond Awards deadline is tomorrow. You can complete a nomination in less than an hour with the help of a colleague or two. (Linkedin makes getting the details much easier than it used to be!) Make the time today to do something for a colleague you admire - you'll be glad you did.
