MSAE: Tell us about your family, pets, and where you call home.
BD: My wife Sara and I are blessed with two sons, Landon (13; 7th Grade) and Connor (11; 5th Grade). They both play travel hockey and baseball. We spend so much time at baseball fields and ice rinks, which brings us a lot of joy! We live in Farmington and share our home with two cuddly cats, Ernie and Paws.
MSAE: What do you do for fun or to relax?

BD: My winter passion is the ice rink I built in our backyard, and this winter has been awesome for it! I love skating and playing hockey in my backyard with my boys and other family and friends. Resurfacing the rink with my “home-boni” after a good skate is very satisfying. I call it my ice therapy.

MSAE: How did you first become involved with MSAE, and what motivated you to do so?

BD: As a new CEO at the start of the pandemic, collaborating with and learning from other associations was hugely helpful. And since then I find I learn so much working with other association leaders.

MSAE: Tell us a little bit about your experience working with or for associations.

BD: Associations are great places to work! I enjoy working with dedicated volunteers and advocating for the CPA profession.

MSAE: What made you want to join MSAE's Board of Directors?

BD: I like to participate and give back.

MSAE: What other board work, volunteering, or side work do you do?

BD: I have mentored high school students through Winning Futures. I’m also on the board of the CPA State Executives Association. I volunteer with my family at our church, and I coach my youngest son’s baseball team.

MSAE: What message or advice would you like to share with other members who might be considering getting more involved in MSAE?

BD: Jump right in and find a way to participate that meets your interests. You’ll find great people working in the association world who are all very willing to help.
